Sat on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral in central London, about to set up for a shoot, we look at each other and wonder how on earth we got here. We’re a long way from the streets of Scunthorpe.
Frankly, there have been quite a few moments like this over the years. So many, in fact, we’re starting to lose count.
Like the time we were on location on a vineyard in the Dordogne…
Or that time we were filming on the grounds of Blenheim Palace.
And we’ll never forget our ‘Rio moment’ holding on to our cameras for dear life on a catamaran in the Mediterranean.

Of course, it’s not all glamour.
There was the cow shed in Brighton, the forgotten docklands of Grimsby and, not forgetting that function room in a hotel at East Midlands Airport. Fancy, right?
That said, we really have loved every job.
Indeed, over the last ten years our filming has taken us all over the World —to places we never thought we’d visit, and places we only ever dreamed we would.

And that’s just it: ten years we’ve been doing this now.
Ten years telling stories for our clients, creating a more colourful world through film.
It’s incredible. And we feel so privileged to have met and worked with so many wonderful people.
We have welcomed so many people on our journey
We have formed some great friendships along the way

Thing is, even though 2021 sees us hit a milestone we never imagined we would reach…
We’re even more excited by what’s to come.
Still, it’s interesting to look back and wonder just how two kids—and let’s be honest, pretty geeky kids—went from a living room in sunny Scunny to working with global brands and household names.
How We Got Here

We’re cousins, Pete and me.
And this all actually started in his Mum’s—my Auntie’s—living room. (Big thanks to our friends and family, by the way, for putting up with us back then.)
You see, while everyone else was getting excited about the Royal Wedding (Yes—it was ten years ago that Will married Kate!), we were more excited about coming up with a name for our film company.
Of course, at that point you could hardly call it a company. KNOW was just an idea, a natural extension to the freelance work Pete and I were doing after university.
Like you probably used to dream up different names for your imaginary band at school, we worked through countless ideas for our imaginary company until we hit on it:
And that’s when it started.
Something sparked and before we even really understood what we were doing, we we’re a business and things started spiralling—in a good way.
In fact, we weren’t properly looking for an office at the time, but we stumbled on our first real home on 44 Mary Street in Scunthorpe and just went for it.
And, of course, my Auntie was glad to have her living room back.

Before long we were working with local firms, helping to tell their stories through film, and the feedback we were getting was great. People seemed to like our style, they appreciated our friendly approach and our name spread around Lincolnshire and beyond.
Having slowly but surely built our tech set-up and learned a few more tricks of the trade, in 2015 we realised it was time to step it up a gear and found our next home in Brigg.
Things kept growing from there.
We started with very limited equipment
Driving up and down the country for us just became part of our routine
We moved to our cosy little Brigg studio in 2015
We began working with so many great brands, both locally and around the UK, and more than anything we made so many great friends.
It was at this time we met Ben too, who started out with us as an apprentice editor and is now a fully-fledged member of the KNOW team.
I say team, but it would be more accurate to say family. That’s what we are here at KNOW. We always have been.

Indeed, together with Ben, things went from strength to strength and last year, in 2020, we found ourselves on the move once again, to a much bigger space in Scunthorpe’s Britannia House.
Then the pandemic hit. It was rough. But we figured it out.
Thanks to the larger, more open-plan space, and thanks to the constant investment we’ve been making over the years in our equipment, we were able to offer our support and continue to help businesses and brands tell their story.
From podcasts to promos, our work has always been varied
We have consistently invested in new technology
We now occupy an open plan space at Britannia House
And we still can. Right now, we’re fully set up to provide contactless filming as we go into this next (and hopefully, final) stage of lockdown.
So, what next?…
Communication has always been at the heart of what we do
Again, anything to get the shot…
Filming in the Mediterranean
Here’s to Ten More Years (And Many More Stories)
Ten years. A decade. It’s crazy.
But then they say time flies when you’re having fun.
And we’re certainly having a lot of that.

On set in beautiful medieval York
In fact, without a doubt, the best thing about being in business over these past ten years is the fun we’ve had filming with you: our clients, our friends.
Whether it’s filming in the sunshine of the Tuscan Hills or knee-deep in mud on a mountain in Wales…
Whether we’re on site in the wonderful cafes, restaurants and hotels we work with all over the country…
Or whether we’re creating a colourful world in a less than colourful function room on an industrial estate in Immingham…
It’s the fact we’re able to connect with so many brilliant and inspiring people that makes us excited for another ten years.
Sure, we go into the next part of our journey not quite knowing how things will pan out in the wider world, but what we do know is that here at KNOW, we will always continue to help our clients create a more colourful world through film.
And as ever, no matter what life throws at us, we’re only ever a phone call or an email away. You can get in touch on 07702 685084, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or get in touch via our website here: www.know.film
For now, we’ll raise a virtual glass to ten years of KNOW, but we hope before too long we’ll be able to get together to celebrate ten years behind the camera, and raise a glass together.
Thanks for the support.
